How to Crochet a Bag
Stylish, functional, and endlessly customizable – your new favorite grab-and-go tote.

1/1 Create the Base
Start with a foundation chain as wide as you want your bag. Work single or half double crochet rows to form a sturdy rectangular or oval base.
1/2 Build the Body
Crochet in the round or turn rows upward, continuing in your stitch pattern. Add stripes, texture, or color blocks as you go.
2/1 Shape the Top
Once the body is tall enough, finish with a few tighter rows for structure. Add eyelets or edging if you’d like to insert a drawstring or lining.
2/2 Add the Handles
Crochet two sturdy straps and sew or crochet them onto the bag. You can also use wooden or leather handles for a more polished finish.
